Although Sem was a relatively small professional cycling team, under the leadership of director Jean de Gibraldy they won several classics and stage races. The team started under the name Puch-Sem-Campagnolo and Gibraldy had appointed Joaquim Agostinho as team leader. Agostinho finished 5th in the 1980 Tour de France. The following year the team was renamed Sem-France-Loire when Sem became the main sponsor. In 1982, Seán Kelly joined the team and thus worked with his former manager again. The highlight for the team was in 1981 when Serge Bucherie became road racing champion.
