Brooklyn is a former cycling team of Italian origin. A team with one of the most beautiful historic racing jerseys. The name and the shirt look American, but Brooklyn is Italian chewing gum made in Milan. After seeing the American soldiers chewing the typical gum with stars and stripes, the brothers Egidio and Ambrogio decided in 1946 to start producing gum as well. The great success of their company came in 1969 with the launch of Brooklyn, chewing gum with the USA stripes and with the famous bridge of New York as image. This became a great success. In 2001, the company merged with the Dutch company Van Melle (Fruittella and Mentos). The Perfetti family is now one of the richest families in Italy.
The original cycling team was founded in 1970 under the name Dreher, but changed it in 1973 to Brooklyn. This cycling team was active in the period from 1970 to 1977. It was mainly a team to be admired in the one-day cycling classics. Roger De Vlaeminck, four-time winner of Paris-Roubaix, is the most famous rider that the cycling team had. De Vlaeminck rode for Brooklyn for a total of five seasons.
