Here the cycling shirt of the iconic Belgian cycling team from the 1960s; Wiel's Groene Leeuw.
The Belgian bicycle brand Groene Leeuw, founded in 1929, was a prominent name in the cycling world, sponsoring several cycling teams from 1945 to the late 1960s. One of the most memorable teams from this period was Wiel's Groene Leeuw, which was active from 1962 to 1965. This team played an important role in cycling and produced some notable riders who achieved considerable success.
Riders included Benoni Beheyt who cut “The Emperor of Herentals” Rik van Looy from his third world title in 1963. The brothers Armand and Gustaaf Desmet. Both brothers rode for Wiel's Groene Leeuw. Armand's strengths were stage races and Gustaaf particularly shone in one-day races.
Armand Desmet: Desmet was a strong rider in stage races, finishing fourth in the 1964 Tour de France, making him one of the best Belgian classification riders of his time.
International recognition was gained by Wiel's Green Lion with the addition of Spanish climber Fernando Manzaneque. Their presence helped the team form a diverse and strong group of riders, capable of excelling in both classics and stage races.
