The Belgian team Hitachi-Marc-Splendor was the successor of the Splendor cycling team. Splendor was founded in 1975, but in 1984 Hitachi became the main sponsor and changed the name. The team was active until 1989. Famous riders who rode for the team included Claude Criquielion, Rudy Matthijs, Hendrik Devos, Michle Pollentier, Jean-Marie Wampers and Dirk De Wolf. The team was able to put down some strong performances, for example they participated in the Tour de France ten times and won the Tour of Flanders twice. Claude Criquielion, who rode for the team from 1980 to 1989, ensured numerous victories such as the Tour of Flanders in 1987.
