CYCLING & CORONA

The government urges people to be careful with social contacts. Fortunately, cycling is a sport that you can do on your own just fine. Most cyclists and mountain bikers already cycle alone. In Germany, the government itself advises people to take to their bikes, but this is also advised in the Netherlands. The doctors from the RIVM recommend cycling. This helps to arm ourselves against the Coronavirus. As long as we are not in a complete lock-down like Italy and Spain, you can keep on cycling. Exercise is good and contributes to a strong and healthy body. Sport is the way to strengthen our immune system.  

A few tips:

  • If you have a cold or don't feel well - stay at home! and... get well soon.
  • Cycle alone - less fun than with your mates but it’s safer though.
  • If you decide to go cycling with friends, keep a distance of at least 1 ½ metres - but when cycling, it can definitely be more.
  • Avoid overcrowded routes - discover new and quiet ones yourself.
  • By cycling you avoid public transport. Cycling reduces the risk of infection.
  • Cycling boosts your immune system. With all the gyms closed, cycling is a great way to keep active.
  • Cycling is good for the lungs, because it ventilates the airways. Cycling also improves blood circulation. When you start cycling, you breathe more intensively, which means that the lungs become clean. This is extra good against viruses.
  • Do not overtrain, that reduces your resistance.
  • Don't spit on the ground and blow your nose with a paper handkerchief - certainly not in the air!
  • The terraces are closed - so bring plenty of food and drinks with you.
  • Be careful - make sure you don't make any strange turns, hospitals already have their hands full fighting Corona.

Will it come to a complete lock-down after all? Well, then you’ll have to say hi to the exercise bike, a roller bank or walking up and down the stairs very often, jumping rope, etc.
